Eden, Either

He left her, and she left him

And all around the fishbowl they'd swim

She left him, and he left her

In search of someone to prefer

So why do we run away

If our discontent seems here to stay

Can you speak of, just what our dreams were?

Just remember — we still couldn’t stay

in Eden either.

He left him, and she left her

And one by one they caused quite a stir

He did that, and then she did this

We all need a working hypothesis

But why do we run away

While our discontent seems here to stay

Could you laugh, when you see what your schemes were?

So remember — we just couldn’t stay

in Eden either.

Sam loves Tess, and Tess loves Joe

And on and on and on it will go

Across an ocean of salt we sail on

Toward undiscovered lands that we’re drawn

Who do we fool when we run away

While our discontent is here to stay

Could you laugh, if you saw what your schemes were?

So remember — we just couldn’t stay

in Eden either.

I am particularly fond of this song. I feel that the lyrics and mood came together very well to capture the melancholy and the tongue-in-cheek character I was aiming for. We are never happy, are we? There’s always something better somewhere. It’s the human condition. Leif’s amazing violin work really makes this song come alive.
